Snow and Ice Removal: Why You Should Leave It to the Professionals

According to a WBALTV weather report, snow continued to fall in Maryland in middle of March, even though spring was just around the corner at that time:

Several more inches of snow fall in Maryland

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm advisory for the northern suburbs and a winter storm warning for Baltimore and counties to the south until 2 p.m. Monday.

About 4 to 8 inches of snow was expected in Maryland.

11 Insta-Weather PLUS meteorologist Ava Marie said the bulk of the snow accumulation came by 9-10 a.m. Monday. After that, the late March sunshine will make it hard to stick on the ground, but bands of snow showers are expected to continue until the early afternoon.

Viewers in Annapolis, Columbia and Windsor Mill all reported about 8 inches of snow in those areas by 6:30 a.m.  By noon, Pasadena reported having 9.5 inches, while White Marsh had 7.6.

Temperatures reached the 40s Sunday afternoon but dropped into the lower to middle 20s Sunday night. Highs on Monday are forecast to be in the lower 30s.

Given the recent state of the weather in Maryland, it won’t be surprising if you are one of the many homeowners who are having trouble dealing with ice and snow on their roofs. This kind of buildup can cause a number of serious problems. For instance, ice dams can form along the roof’s edge and the gutter, causing melting snow to back up and seep into your home. Heavy snow can also put unnecessary stress on your roof deck, which in extreme cases may lead to collapse.

While you may be itching to get up on your roof and remove the ice and snow yourself, doing so will just put you in danger. Roofs are extremely slippery when coated with ice, and it gets even worse once the snow begins to melt. Your regular snow rake might not be of much help either so getting help from roofers in Maryland is a must.
