Tips for Transitioning Your Summer Deck to a Fall Deck

Autumn is finally here and that means it’s time to prepare your fall deck for the season!

The autumn season is finally here! That means the leaves are changing colors and the air is getting brisk. However, just because the summer is over does not mean that you can’t still make use of your deck. Fall is great for lighting a bonfire and enjoying the cool breeze. Here are some tips for transitioning your summer deck to a fall deck.

Add Lighting

During the fall season, the sun starts to go down earlier in the day. However, this doesn’t mean that the party has to stop! Enjoy your deck in the evenings even if it’s dark by adding some lighting. You may consider some festive lighting options such as string lights or lanterns to really set the tone for the fall season. Lighting will make your fall deck more cozy and inviting on those cool nights.

Patio Furniture

It’s a good idea to swap out the furniture on your deck when the weather begins to cool down. You want to invest in furniture that is more durable and water resistant so that it can withstand the upcoming winter precipitation. Rather than plush furniture that has cushions, go for solid furniture and then purchase your own removable seat cushions to put on top when you are using it. You could also invest in built-in seating that is incorporated right into your fall deck!

Cold Barrier

There are a variety of different deck covers that you can purchase to help create a barrier from the cold weather. You can even buy a cover that completely encloses your deck so that you can enjoy it even on those really cold days. If you want something more temporary, an awning is a good option that can easily be removed when the spring comes back around. You can also consider outdoor heaters or fire pits for your fall deck to really keep things cozy.

Fall Decorations

There is no better way to prepare your fall deck than to decorate it with fun items that are specific to the season! Colors such as browns, oranges, and reds are great for the fall. You may want to carve some jack-o-lanterns and put them on your deck or even invest in hay or dried corn stalks! These are great, easy ways to transform your summer deck into a fall one!
